Family asking for prayers after home was damaged following EF3 tornado

HENAGER, Ala. (WHNT) — For Tyler and Nabil Dailey, the devastation caused by the tornado in DeKalb County comes just a year after their infant daughter underwent open heart surgery.

The tornado that hit Henagar was upgraded to an EF3 with winds reaching up to 140 miles an hour. While sitting in their shelter, the Dailey’s home was damaged as they waited on that violent tornado to move through.

More tornadoes confirmed after Wednesday night storms

“It’s definitely emotional for everybody of course,” Tyler Dailey told News 19.

Dailey tells News 19 that the tornado that ripped through Henagar was a frightening experience for his family. Part of their home was nearly destroyed by the violent winds that swept through his neighborhood.

“It happened a lot faster than you would think, I mean it was a matter of five seconds we felt the house vibrating for a solid five seconds, we heard the wind howling it felt like the roof was going to come off,” Dailey said.

Support beams are keeping the family’s garage intact for now, but their home also suffered foundational damage.

“We felt like it hardly hit our house then, we went outside and saw all the damage, it was shocking,” he said.

The devastation comes just a year after Dailey’s infant daughter underwent open heart surgery to fix a birth defect.

“We were lucky that what she had was fixable, I’m blessed every day that I’ve got her that’s part of the blessing that my family every day is thankful for,” Dailey explained.

The family explained how the DeKalb County community has come together to help each other address the damage.

Dailey says his family is grateful to still be here and they appreciate the people who have and plan to financially contribute to their recovery efforts. “I feel like that would be a blessing that is sent and it definitely would be a blessing given back,” Dailey said.
