I won't be getting a check. But then, I'm working from home, and have enough cash in the bank to go a year or more without a paycheck. Give the money to the people and businesses that need it most. Then, get the economy open!
I make under 30k a year. I am thankful that my company did not lay me off and allowed me to work from home. I live pay check to pay check, will appreciate the 1200 dollars which will go a long way for me.
Both my wife and I are still working and have income over the threshold levels. I'm happy we aren't eligible for a rebate as those suffering should be on the front of the line. For those in a decent financial position, please consider supporting your local businesses by sending food to hospitals and other front line workers. We got into the habit of doing this once a week through a local pizza place in our town. Give back and give often, if you can!
I can't believe a parent would complain when their child is already a "WARD" of the state? Their living expenses are paid for? No social security card? That's right No Money
Yes, those who do not have a social security number should not get a check and those who are listed as a dependent should not get a check. Why should someone get a check if they are being claimed on taxes by parents, etc.?
Free Our Country
I was forced to retire on disability due to a car accident, (not my fault), and for four years have had to adjust to living on 1/5th of my pre-work income. I should qualify for a stimulus check, but won't hold my breath till it arrives. As I have found out, even tho I can't work due to physical disability, I don 't seem to qualify for a lot of help, because I worked for a living for 42 years! Go figure!
"most college kids, immigrants without Social Security numbers and some disabled adults."
They are not falling through the cracks, they simply don't qualify because someone else supports them. The person supporting them (claiming the as a dependent) will receive a payment.
Without a social security number you can’t file a tax return so why should you get a check?
Regardless of how much people earn in wages, some of them are always destined to be broke. If they make $50K a year, they spend $75K, if they make $150K a year, they spend $200K.
I make about $20K a year and have over $20K in cash on hand and enough food and supplies for 6 months. I'm not a doomsday prepper, but I don't live from day to day, or paycheck to paycheck.
It's not the people's fault, they are taught in school that debt is good and it's ok to live way beyond your means.
There was enough time for congress to throw in more than the amount ear marked for "relief" to fund things that have nothing to do with from, what I can see, to supporting the fight on the virus, those funds should be tossed out of the stimulus package just like the congress members that supported the addition. NO MORE CAREER POLITICIANS, serve for 2, 4 year terms and done move back to the population, no more set for life health care, or any of the perks they suffer the population with!
Article is exactly what we I thought it would be. People who take no issue claiming dependents at tax time to get relief, or even refunds, seem to have a problem with the government skipping dependents at subsidy time. Shocking.
Not true. College kids w/o an income just need to file a tax return but they may be claimed by a parent as well and if so take it up with mom and dad. As far as disabled people if they are a disabled veteran on on SSDI they already qualify unless they are *disabled* but not officially as far as the government goes and they those same people could also still file a tax return and get it just like college kids although it will be sometime later they would get their check.
The ONLY ones who are left without an option really are illegal aliens who w/o SSN's can't get a check as well as temporary stay foreign visitors (tourists and students) but why should the US be giving *free* money to illegal aliens and temporary stay visitors? They aren't our problem and not our responsibility.
