Fallen 'Idol:' TV talent show winner arrested on drug charges in the Dominican Republic

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic - A winner of the TV talent show "Latin American Idol" has been charged with drug smuggling after police in the Dominican Republic say they found heroin stuffed in the heels of her platform shoes.

A director of the National Drug Control Agency Duran says Martha Heredia was arrested late Wednesday as she was about to board a plane to New York.

Frank Duran said Thursday that police found 2.9 pounds (1.3 kilograms) of heroin in the heels of three pairs of shoes. Police also ordered Heredia to undergo X-ray tests to determine if she had any drugs hidden inside her body, but none were found.

The 22-year-old became a star in her native Dominican Republic when she won the international TV contest in 2009.
