Fairhope Police: Why you may see officers in tactical gear and hear gunfire today

FAIRHOPE, Ala. (WKRG) — If you live near Coastal Alabama Community College, you may hear gunfire and see officers in tactical gear today, according to the Fairhope Police Department.

But don’t worry; there’s a good reason for that, News 5 has learned.

The FPD posted on Facebook that their department is holding a training exercise at Coastal Alabama Community College today, March 22, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

LOCATION OF TRAINING EXERCISE:

According to the post, gunfire will be stimulated during the drill.

In addition, residents may see officers competing in tactical gear.

Officials with the department emphasized, “PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A TRAINING EXERCISE ONLY.”
