FAIRFIELD – The legacy of former longtime Fairfield choral director Jeff Clark will be honored at Saturday’s Crystal Classic show choir competition.

The competition’s Spirit of Show Choir award will be renamed in Clark’s honor and presented by his mother, Candy Clark. He was the district’s choral director from 2004-2016 and he died last summer.

“He was very instrumental in taking our show choir program to the next level,’’ said Gina Gentry Fletcher, district spokeswoman. “It’s a fitting tribute to someone who had a tremendous impact on our show choir program.”

Twenty-five top-performing middle, junior, freshman and high school show choirs will be competing at Fairfield Senior High School, 8800 Holden Blvd., beginning Saturday at 8 a.m., ending with awards at 11 p.m. Competition takes place in both the performing arts center and arena.

This is the 26th year for the competition which includes nationally-ranked choirs from Illinois, Virginia, West Virginia, and Indiana. Performances showcase each group’s singing, costumes, choreography and live instrumentals.

Local districts are sending the following choirs:

  • Loveland: By Request, Allure and Revolution.

  • Ross: Legacy, Next Generation.

  • Edgewood: Choraliers, Overtures.

  • Mount Notre Dame: Jubilation.

Fairfield’s Rhythm Express, Pure Elegance and Choraliers show choirs will perform but are not competing.

Crystal trophies will be awarded for best vocals, choreography, costumes, instrumentals, the People’s Choice and Grand Champion.

All-day tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for children ages 3-8.
