Fairfax hosts contest to choose next election sticker

FAIRFAX, Va. (DC News Now) — Fairfax said it is holding a competition for school-aged students, asking them to design new election stickers for the city.

The winning artwork for the “I Voted” sticker contest will be used in the county for the Nov. 5 Presidential Election.

The contest is a joint effort of the City of Fairfax Office of Elections and the City of Fairfax Commission on the Arts. It began on Jan. 15. Students can submit entries until April 12.

Children in Grades 7-12 are eligible to enter their designs for the “I Voted” sticker. Students from Kindergarten to 6th Grade can submit entries for a “Future Voter” sticker, which will be handed out to children on Election Day.

What’s with all the student driver stickers?

Students must reside in and attend a public or private school in Fairfax.

Entries can be submitted electronically or by mail. They must include original artwork and an entry form with parental consent.

The artwork must contain the phrase “I Voted” or “Future Voter” and embody the theme of voting, avoiding obscenity, partisanship, defamation, copyright violation. Additionally, the designs cannot break any laws.

The stickers will first be voted on by members of the City of Fairfax Commission on the Arts, Election Board, and City of Fairfax School Board to narrow down the top three designs. The public decides the ultimate winner.
