It's an exciting week at Frank Buck Zoo.

Admission will be $2 per person Wednesday in honor of Frank Buck's birthday. Cake will be cut at 1 p.m. and cake will be served until it runs out.

Also, the new rock mining sluice opened this past Friday, where people can collect all sorts of neat rocks.

"We have already had kiddos enjoying," said Susan Kleven, the director of the zoo. "For families interested in the mining sluice, keep in mind after purchasing admission they will want to head into the gift shop to select which sluice bag they want."

The zoo has also recently received a troop of red backed bearded sakis on permanent loan from the Dallas World Aquarium, one of which is a neonate, or a young child.

"The neonate is currently three months old," said Kleven. "Staff will wait until it becomes more independent before moving the troop to their new habitat next to the keel billed toucans."

In addition to these new additions, the zoo always has plenty of exciting things going on.

People can also attend various animal feedings. From 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Monday through Friday, people can meet at the giraffe exhibit to feed the giraffes for $6 per participant.

Recently, the zoo has also added flamingo and capybara encounters to feed and interact with the animals. Flamingo encounters start at 10:15 a.m. and can accommodate up to five people, and capybara encounters are at 2 p.m. and can accommodate up to four people. Each encounter is $20 per person, and all participants must be ages eight and older. Due to limited available opportunities, reservations are required, which can be made by calling 940-668-4539 or emailing giftshop@cogtx.org.

FBZ is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily with the last ticket being sold at 4:30 p.m. Ticket price for children age one through 12 years old is $7.50, adult tickets for individuals 13 to 54 years old are $9, and active military and seniors 55 years old and older can get tickets for $7.50.
