Facebook announced Thursday a new initiative to enable its 900 million members to track the complaints they submit to the company.
The new feature, “Support Dashboard,” which will allow members to see what happens when they submit a report, is part of Facebook’s efforts to improve membership safety.
“We are always looking for ways to make reporting easier and more transparent for the people who use Facebook,” said Terry Guo, product manager for support engineering and site integrity.
“Through these vital reports, people help us effectively take down content that is against our policies,” Guo said.
“That is why we are excited to launch this feature that will enable people to track their reports and inform them when action is taken,” he added. “The hope is that the Support Dashboard will provide greater clarity and accountability to our processes.”
Content that promotes violence and threats, self-harm, bullying and harassment, hate speech, graphic violence, nudity and pornography, as well as phishing and spam, are all violations of the company’s Community Standards. Posing as another person, posting another user’s private information, or posting intellectual property without permission are also violations of Facebook’s Community Standards.
Facebook states on its ‘Community Standards’ page that its policies are outlined to “balance the needs and interests of a global population.”
