Facebook’s first agency-created video ad compares social network to chairs [video]

In addition to announcing that Facebook (FB) now has 1 billion active users every month, CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed the company’s first agency-created video ad. Created by Wieden & Kennedy, Facebook’s video titled “The Things That Connect Us” likens the social network to chairs. Yes, chairs.

“Chairs are made so that people can sit down and take a break,” the ad intones. “Anyone can sit on a chair. And if the chair is large enough, they can sit down together and tell jokes, or make up stories, or just listen. Chairs are for people. And that is why chairs are like Facebook.”

The minute and a half long video goes on to describe objects that connect people such as doorbells, airplanes and bridges, before ending with an existential remark that “the reason we make all these things is to remind ourselves that we are not [alone].” Facebook’s new video ad follows below.
