A recent study published in the journal “Eye and Contact Lens” found that eyeliner applied inside the lash line can move into the eye, which is can cause irritation and infections.
The study also found that liner applied this way, known as “tight-lining,” often came off completely within 10 minutes of application – so it didn’t even achieve the goal of ornamenting the eyes!

Dermatologist Dr. Sandra Lee notes that, “There’s a reason people do it, because it can make your eye look a little bigger,” but it’s just not worth the risk.
