Taylor Sheridan’s latest television series “Landman” is filming in a small North Texas county this week.

“Landman” is scheduled to film scenes in Young County this week, which is about 85 miles northwest of Fort Worth. The new Paramount+ series stars Billy Bob Thornton and is set in the world of oil prospectors.

Location managers for Paramount Pictures appeared at a Young County Commissioners Court meeting last week where they discussed filming, according to The Graham Leader. Production is set for State Highway 16 between Turtle Hole Road and Oliver Lane near the small town of Loving.

The scene “Landman” crews will be shooting on the Young County road involves a collision between a small airplane and an oil tanker — which the production hopes will cause an impressive fireball.

Local fire departments and the Young County Sheriff’s Department have been alerted of the filming due to nature of the pyrotechnic stunt, according to The Graham Leader.

During filming from Wednesday to Monday, the stretch of road involved in the shoot will be closed. Truck and commercial vehicles will detour on Red Top Road between the city of Graham and State Highway 114, while non-commercial vehicles will be diverted to side roads.

Additional filming dates and closures for the Young Country road are planned for March 27 and April 16, according to The Graham Leader.

What is “Landman” about and when does it release?

“Landman” is the latest show from North Texas native Taylor Sheridan.

The show began production in Fort Worth last month and is expected to film in and around North Texas for the next few months. Billy Bob Thornton stars in the show alongside Jon Hamm, Demi Moore and Ali Larter.

“Landman” is co-created and executive produced by Sheridan and Christian Wallace, which is based on Texas Monthly’s podcast “Boomtown” that Wallace wrote and hosted.

The show’s synopsis reads, “Landman is set in the proverbial boomtowns of West Texas and is a modern day tale of fortune seeking in the world of oil rigs. The series is an upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires fueling a boom so big, it’s reshaping our climate, our economy and our geopolitics.”

Both Thornton and Hamm have been spotted around Fort Worth betwixt filming scenes for the show. Hamm stopped by a few local barbecue joints, while Thornton prefers celebrity-favorite Joe T. Garcia’s.

Whenever “Landman” debuts, it will be on Paramount+.
