Before I begin this piece, let me clarify a little bit about myself as it regard to Ryan Tannehill. When he was drafted by the Dolphins in the first round a few years ago, I was extremely high and positive on the future of the Miami Dolphins and Tannehill as the teams starting quarterback.

As the years have gone by, to some, only one of hopes has been proven wrong. To others, both hopes have not only been proven wrong, but they have been smashed into itty bitty pieces, fed to a dog, and been deposited into the backyard with the lawnmower eventually ran them over.

I fall into that second category. Over the course of the last two seasons, I have gone from being a Tannehill supporter, to a middle of the road hopeful, to a anybody but Tannehill supporter. With that said though, what can we all as Miami Dolphins’ fans begin to expect from Ryan Tannehill this season?

Well for starters, expect Tannehill to be the starter for the entire season no matter what. The only obstacle to seeing Tannehill start 16 games this season would be injury. Without a real contender at backup — we will get to that later this week — Tannehill will be given complete control in new head coach Adam Gase’s first season.

Now though, this is where the questions really begin. With an offensive line now as strong as it has ever been during his tenure with the Dolphins, the main excuse of the Tannehill era will disappear. Continuing to struggle will ultimately answer most of those questions, including that of his unlikely future in Miami.

Also adding to the pressure on Tannehill this season will be the depth and talent of the teams current wide receiver class. DeVante Parker, Jarvis Landry and Kenny Stills just to name a few will all be top performers for Tannehill this season, giving him options all over the field.

Performing well and at least showing signs of improvement this season will be a must for Tannehill. Improved accuracy and pocket awareness will be two areas fans and coaches will be keeping a close eye on. Failing to improve, this could be the final year we see Ryan Tannehill as the starting quarterback for the Miami Dolphins.
