Expect delays on Bangerter Highway starting March 15, UDOT says

SOUTH JORDAN, Utah (ABC4) — Expect delays if you’re planning on driving Bangerter Highway this weekend, the Utah Department of Transportation said. The intersection of Bangerter Highway and 9800 S in South Jordan will be closed temporarily as crews work to remove the pedestrian bridge.

The closures are expected to start on Friday, March 15 from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m., although UDOT said construction schedules are weather-dependent and subject to change. There will be no through traffic on northbound and southbound Bangerter Highway during this time.

Once the highway reopens to northbound and southbound traffic on Saturday morning, crews will reportedly begin installing bridge supports for the new intersection. UDOT said drivers can expect no eastbound travel access across Bangerter Highway, and westbound traffic will be reduced to one lane through the intersection.

The road will reopen for the morning commute on Monday, March 18.

UDOT said drivers should expect delays in the area during this work and can use either 9000 S or 10400 S as alternate routes.

UDOT also said they worked closely with Jordan School District officials and will provide bussing for students who previously used the pedestrian bridge. Crews are reportedly working to build a new pedestrian bridge at 9800 South, which will be fully operational by this fall when school starts back up again.

This work is all part of the UDOT Bangerter South project, which is converting the intersections of 9800 S, 13400 S, and 2700 W into freeway-style interchanges, UDOT said. These projects, which are anticipated to be complete at the end of 2025, are reportedly part of UDOT’s efforts to eliminate stoplights along Bangerter Highway.
