‘Exercise caution:’ Warning on today’s wind, humidity

(WJW) – The National Weather Service has issued a Special Weather Statement warning of an “elevated fire danger this afternoon.”

According to the statement issued Monday morning, the combination of humidity and wind puts much of Northeast Ohio at an increased risk for a fire to start and spread.

“Any fire that gets started could grow out of control under these conditions,” said the NWS. “Please exercise caution if handling open flames or equipment that creates sparks. Dispose of cigarettes, matches, and other flammable materials in appropriate containers.”

Impacted counties include Ashtabula, Ashland, Crawford, Cuyahoga, Erie, Geauga, Hancock, Holmes, Huron, Knox, Lake, Lorain, Lucas, Mahoning, Marion, Medina, Morrow, Ottawa, Portage, Richland, Sandusky, Seneca, Stark, Summit, Trumbull, Wayne, Wood, and Wyandot.
