Exclusive: Former 'RuPaul's Drag Race' and 'Project Runway' Star's Controversial 111-Day Juice Fast

Is former "Project Runway" and "RuPaul's Drag Race" star Santino Rice taking his quest for health too far?

The designer and reality star recently announced on Twitter that he fasted for 111 days. "By fasting for 111 days, I hope to inspire others to give it a try for as many days as they can~Just 3 days will reset your immune system," he wrote. His fans had both positive and negative reactions to his drastic fast, with some calling his plan irresponsible.

He joined the panel on the 109th day of his juice fast, saying, "I've never felt better." He tells The Doctors that when he began his fast he was dealing with Rheumatoid arthritis, Psoriatic arthritis, Psoriasis and Celiac disease and now he claims his issues have drastically improved because of the juice fast. He also says he has more energy and feels "more clear".

Nutritionist Keri Glassman joins the panel to say, "This is not safe. I would not ever recommend this and I do not think this is a good message to put out there. It may work for Santino. He may feel good, but for the large majority of people out there, it is not healthy. Especially, for a people with eating disorders, for people with emotional eating, for diabetics, for children for athletes, for the immuno-comprised -- it could be very dangerous."

ER physician Dr. Travis Stork commends Santino for following a dietary plan that works for him, but questions if he is getting enough protein and fiber in his diet. Santino refutes this, explaining that 80 percent of his juices come from greens. Dr. Travis also questions why he is only consuming juice and not simply eating a plant-based diet because juicing a fruit or vegetable removes many of its important qualities.

Santino believes, "When you no longer have to digest solid food and you're assimilating the juice from these leafy greens and fruits, your body uses its extra energy to heal itself."

The Doctors stress to always talk to your healthcare professional before beginning any diet or nutritional regimen.
