Join us as we get in formation to admire Beyonce's latest shade of blonde she debuted in multiple plaits on the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards red carpet tonight at Madison Square Garden in N.Y.C. In addition to giving a surprise performance at the show, Queen Bey also ruled the red carpet by bringing Blue Ivy along as her date for the night.

"I wanted to give Beyonce a fresh update for tonight," the singer's go-to colorist Rita Hazan exclusively tells InStyle. "We went super light at the beginning of the summer to kick off her Formation tour and sometimes ombre can start to look dated."

To upgrade Bey's shade, Hazan added multi-dimensional highlights to the 34-year-old singer's strands starting at the roots. "I used colors all in the same blonde family to maintain the same angelic feeling to her shade," said Hazan. "I also knew that Beyonce was going to wear her hair up so we really wanted the highlights to shine and show through." To give Bey's strands a glossy boost, Hazan pre-treated her mane with her trio of True Color Shampoo, Conditioner, and gloss ($26 each; sephora.com). Talk about #flawless.
