Former New York Republican Gov. George Pataki endorsed retired NYPD cop Alison Esposito for the GOP nomination to take on first-term Democratic Rep. Pat Ryan in the Hudson Valley’s 18th Congressional District.
Esposito, who was GOP gubernatorial candidate Lee Zeldin’s running mate for lieutenant governor in 2022, may first have to win a Republican primary against rival Lovelynn Gwinn to face Ryan.
“In an era where New York cries out for true leadership and integrity, Alison stands as a beacon of hope and resilience,” Pataki said Monday.
“With a formidable 25-year tenure in the NYPD, she has not only protected our streets but also embodied the spirit of duty and courage that defines New York,” said Pataki, who has roots in the Hudson Valley.
“I am honored to have the endorsement of Governor George Pataki. He led New York during some of our most difficult times and gave our state and country exemplary leadership when we needed it,” Esposito said.
“Today, our state is a shell of its former self, and I know that when we elect commonsense leaders to Washington and New York, we will once again restore New York to glory.”
Esposito, who resides in Goshen, retired from the NYPD as deputy inspector and commanding officer of Brooklyn’s 70th Precinct.
Ryan, the former Ulster County executive, is a West Point Military Academy graduate who served two Army tours in Iraq. He is running for a second full, two-year term.
