Ex-Miami QB Jack Allison says he's transferring to West Virginia
West Virginia has added another transfer quarterback from the Sunshine State.
After deciding to transfer in April, ex-Miami quarterback Jack Allison announced Tuesday that he will continue his career with the Mountaineers. His announcement contradicts a Monday report that indicated Allison planned to transfer to a junior college.

If he had indeed gone the JUCO route, Allison would have been immediately eligible. But because he’s staying at the FBS level, he will be required to sit out the 2017 season to satisfy NCAA transfer requirements.
Allison, a native of Palmetto, Florida, was a four-star recruit in the 2016 class. He was the No. 205 player in his recruiting class, according to Rivals.com’s rankings. He redshirted his lone season with the Hurricanes before deciding to transfer. At West Virginia, he’ll have three years of eligibility remaining after sitting in 2017.

Allison is the third QB to transfer from a Florida program to WVU under Dana Holgorsen. Clint Trickett left Florida State for the Mountaineers in 2013. More recently, Will Grier landed at WVU following a tumultuous exit from Florida while under suspension for testing positive for Ligandrol, a performance-enhancing drug. Grier apologized and said he did not check with UF’s training staff before taking the supplement.

West Virginia anticipates Grier to be eligible for the start of the 2017 season, but it’s not official just yet. It all depends on the timing of his positive test and what the NCAA considers time served. Because he was suspended (for 12 months) midseason in 2015, the suspension could carry over through the first six games in 2017. WVU is appealing with the hopes Grier, who is at the top of the depth chart, will be ready to start the opener.
If Grier, who has two years remaining, has to miss time, WVU will have Chris Chugunov, walk-on Jack Bueltel and junior college transfer David Israel in the mix.
Coming off a 10-3 record in 2016, WVU opens the 2017 season against Virginia Tech on Sept. 3 in Landover, Maryland. The game, to be played on a Sunday night alongside a UCLA-Texas A&M matchup, will be part of a great Week 1 slate.
