Ex-Kansas QB Montell Cozart announces transfer to Boise State

Montell Cozart has found a new home in the Mountain West.

The former Kansas quarterback announced his decision to transfer back in February. On Thursday he revealed that he intends to finish out his collegiate career at Boise State, where he will be eligible immediately.

Cozart led Kansas with 1,075 passing yards and seven touchdowns but also tossed nine interceptions. He lost his starting role late in the season. Over the course of his time at Kansas, Cozart threw for 2,755 yards, 14 touchdowns and 19 interceptions in 15 starts.

Cozart, who is set to graduate from Kansas this month, presumably slides into a backup role for the Broncos behind Brett Rypien, who has started the past two seasons and will be a junior in 2017.

Boise was looking for depth behind Rypien after junior college transfer Rathen Ricedorff was deemed ineligible for the 2017 season due to a rules violation. Per the Idaho Statesman, Ricedorff, who is no longer with the program, was expected to see action as a red zone rushing threat. Cozart, who has 481 career rushing yards, could potentially have a role in that capacity.

The Broncos, coming off a 10-3 record in 2016, will also have redshirt freshman Jake Constantine and true freshman Chase Cord taking reps at QB during fall camp.
