Ex-convict faces charges for shooting at car with 2 children inside

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A domestic argument that involved a gun being fired at a vehicle with children inside and the woman in that car running over her partner started because of an argument about purchasing a light at an indoor swap meet, according to Las Vegas Metropolitan police documents.

Deangelo Dixon, 39, an ex-convict, faces 13 charges including attempted murder with the use of a deadly weapon, domestic battery, assault, child abuse/neglect, and discharging a gun at/into a vehicle.

Dixon and Lashontae Turner, who told police they have been in an “on and off” relationship for several years, went to the swap meet on Decatur Boulevard with her 16-year-old daughter and 12-year-old son to shop on the evening of March 23.

According to the documents, following a disagreement over buying a light, Turner sent her children to the car and followed Dixon outside. She told police when she caught up with Dixon, he punched her in the face and she went to her vehicle where her children were.

The report said Turner and her children told officers that Turner began driving toward Dixon and threw a cup of soda at him. As she was driving away, she saw him pull a firearm from his waistband and fire several rounds at the back of her vehicle where her children were seated. Police found six bullet casings at the scene.

In Turner’s arrest report, she told police, that after the shooting, she turned the car around to “cuss” him out but Dixon began to reach for his gun again. She said she “closed her eyes and accelerated at a high rate of speed, swerving to avoid Deangelo” but she ended up hitting him and throwing him onto the windshield, her daughter told police.

Dixon was transported to the hospital with multiple injuries including two broken legs and a broken hand. During an interview with police, he was upset at himself for firing the gun because he told the officer he only carried it for protection and he knew he would now go back to prison, documents stated.

Originally, police submitted charges against Turner to the Clark County District Attorney’s Office but the charges were denied.

Dixon is scheduled to make an initial court appearance on April 3.
