A former Zaporizhzhya City Council deputy from the Communist Party was sentenced to 15 years in prison for directing a series of Russian missile strikes on the city in April-May 2022, which killed three civilians, the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) reported on Telegram on April 23.

The strikes also destroyed at least 30 private houses and damaged a regional industrial plant.

The deputy, who was previously sentenced to six years in prison for plotting a coup, was recruited by Federal Security Service (FSB) in late 2022 and gathered intelligence on the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and defense facilities from his former colleagues in the party. He then personally took photos of the potential targets and sent them in a messenger to his Russian curators along with a detailed description.
