TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The Super Bowl Champion and former tight end for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Rob Gronkowski, paid a visit to veterans in Tampa on Wednesday.

Gronkowski spent time with the veterans at the James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital, located on Bruce B. Downs Boulevard, and showed his support for their service to our country.

The football player was able to hear their stories and even play a friendly game of basketball with a veteran in a wheelchair.

This hospital is a part of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and provides primary care and a range of specialty health services for those who have served.

“It feels great to be here and to just connect with the veterans,” Gronkowski said. “Everyone here, they served our country, they protected our freedom so I can go out and there playing on Sundays, knowing I’m safe.”

Gronkowski said it’s great to give back to the people and community that supported him in his career.

The player said he loves putting a smile on their faces.
