Ewan McGregor will star as Danny Torrance in the long-awaited sequel to The Shining.

Based on the Stephen King novel ‘Doctor Sleep’, the Warner Bros. project is helmed by director Mike Flanagan, who brought King’s novella Gerald’s Game to Netflix last year. A prequel to The Shining is also in the works, thanks the runaway success of 2017’s It.

The story will follow an older Danny Torrence, a man plagued by the trauma of what happened at the Overlook Hotel. He worries that he is becoming a reflection of his murderous, alcohol-dependant father, but reconnects with his “shining” powers after a sober turn.

He starts to connect with a dying girl at a hospice, when he sees that she shares his supernatural abilities. They soon find that their power grows if they inhale the “steam” that comes off other gifted people when they are suffering painful deaths.

No word yet on whether he's keeping the haircut.

Child actor Danny Lloyd originally played Danny Torrence in Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 horror classic, alongside Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall. It was initially a box office disappointment, but earned worldwide critical acclaim over time.
