A senior member of the Welsh government said the first minister was right to sack Hannan Blythyn who is alleged to have leaked to the media.

Vaughan Gething fired the then-minister for social partnership last week, alleging she had leaked text messages.

Ms Blythyn strongly denies the allegation, but Health Minister Eluned Morgan said she was "happy" with the sacking.

She said there was "evidence" to support Mr Gething's decision and the messages could be traced to Ms Blythyn's phone.

BBC Wales has approached Ms Blythyn for comment.

Last week in a social media statement Ms Blythyn said: "I am deeply shocked and saddened by what has happened... I am clear and have been clear that I did not, nor have I ever leaked anything.

"Integrity is all in politics and I retain mine."

On BBC Radio Wales Breakfast, Ms Morgan said there had to be a "degree of trust" within the cabinet, and that she was "happy" with Mr Gething's explanation.

Ms Morgan declined to go into detail about the evidence itself.

She added: "My understanding is that the leak can definitely be traced to her phone.

"There's enough evidence to support that."

She said the first minister had made it "absolutely clear" there was a way back for Ms Blythyn.
