Attorney and former U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney is coming to Des Moines to speak for the spring Bucksbaum Lecture at Drake University.

Who is Liz Cheney?

Cheney served as the U.S. representative of Wyoming's at-large congressional district from 2017 to 2023. She held the third-highest position in House Republican leadership. She served as a member of the House Armed Services Committee, the China Task Force, the Natural Resources Committee and the House Committee on Rules.

In her law career, she worked in international finance. She also co-authored a book with her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, called "Exceptional: Why the World Needs a Powerful America."

She is an outspoken conservative against former President Donald Trump and served on the House committee to investigate the Jan. 6 insurrection. She was censured for her involvement and eventually ousted by in a Republican primary.

When is Liz Cheney speaking in Des Moines?

"An Evening with Liz Cheney" starts at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 27 at the Knapp Center, 2601 Forest Ave., on the Drake University campus.

Parking is free and open to the public, according to a news release from Drake.

What is Drake University's Bucksbaum Lecture?

The Martin Bucksbaum Distinguished Lecture series was started nearly 30 years ago in hopes of sparking community discussion around important issues in the world and country. The lecture series has brought speakers including Maya Angelou, Earvin "Magic" Johnson, Bill Nye the Science Guy and more.
