Events celebrating Women’s History Month across Los Angeles County
March is Women’s History Month, a time to reflect, honor and celebrate diverse women’s contributions to American history.
Friday, March 8, also marks International Women’s Day, a global celebration that recognizes the “social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women,“ according to the IWD website
Many worldwide will also use the day to call for action to advance gender equality.
In honor of Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day, here are some events across Los Angeles County that will honor women.
Celebrate Local Women’s History Kiki in Santa Monica. Guests attending the event will enjoy a potluck and hear from speakers who are activists, artists, entrepreneurs, and educators.
International Women’s Day at the Museum of Latin American Art in Long Beach: On March 10 from 1 to 3 p.m., MOLLA will highlight Latina artisans in honor of International Women’s Day.
Guided bike rides for Women’s History Month in Downtown Los Angeles: Angelenos can use Metro bikes to explore Los Angeles landmarks that were transformed by women.
Debbie Allen Dance Academy Presents “Herstory”: Throughout March at the Rhimes Performing Arts Center in Los Angeles, guests can learn about the past of women trailblazers. The next event, Q&A and film screening of “Origin” by Ava Duvernay, will take place on Saturday.
Smorgasburg x Art Share L.A. Art Fair in Los Angeles: Art from female artists will be featured at this event on March 10 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Shakira, Shakira: The GRAMMY Museum Experience in Los Angeles: Guests can explore all things Shakira at the Grammy Museum. The exhibit recently opened on March 4.
Los Angeles Public Library: The public library system will celebrate Women’s History Month with events at multiple branch locations.
Hollywood NOW Annual Herstory Awards in West Hollywood: The Hollywood Chapter of the National Organization for Women will host its annual Herstory Awards on March 13 at 7 p.m. This year’s honoree is Abbe Land, former West Hollywood Mayor and City Councilmember. West Hollywood will also host other events throughout March.
