'Even a person like him can't resolve this issue in one day,' HUR chief on Trump's promises

Ukrainian military intelligence (HUR) chief Kyrylo Budanov voiced skepticism regarding former U.S. President Donald Trump's pledges to end Russia's war against Ukraine within 24 hours if re-elected, during an interview with The Washington Post on April 17.

"I have a huge respect for the personality of Trump," Budanov said.

Budanov highlighted Trump's attendance at a military academy, praising his tenacity.

"There have been nine instances in his life when he went to the top, fell to the very bottom of life, and went back again," said Budanov.

However, regarding Trump's proposed peace plan, Budanov expressed skepticism, saying that “even a person like him won't be able to resolve this issue in one day.”

Donald Trump on Russia’s war against Ukraine

Former U.S. President Donald Trump promised to quickly end the war in Ukraine if he wins the upcoming 2024 U.S. presidential election, during a speech made on Jan. 16.

“I know President Putin very well. I know Zelenskyy very well,” said Trump.

“We’re going to get it solved very quickly.”

Trump repeatedly claimed that he would “achieve” an end to Russia's war against Ukraine within 24 hours if re-elected. He also said he “would have allowed” Russia to capture part of Ukraine and that the U.S. is sending too much weaponry to Ukraine.

Trump stated that Putin supposedly “wanted peace” but now “will probably get everything” in March 2022. The former U.S. President also called the Russian dictator “a very smart person.”

Trump's plan to end Russia's war against Ukraine is for Ukraine to give up Crimea and Donbas to Russia, the Washington Post reported on April 7.
