Even Michael Bay Thinks 'Transformers 2' Was 'Crap'
Transformers 2 director Michael Bay agrees with the nation's critics: his 2009 summer blockbuster was "crap."

At the time of its release, David Edelstein called the sci-fi robot thriller a "computer-generated hash" while Ben Lyons dubbed it "confusing and excessive."

Now, in an interview with Britain's Empire magazine, Bay is owning up to its failings--though not taking responsibility. He blames the film's weightless plot on the time crunch caused by Hollywood's writers' strike.

"The real fault with (Transformers 2) is that it ran into a mystical world," he says. "When I look back at it, that was crap. The writers' strike was coming hard and fast. It was just terrible to do a movie where you've got to have a story in three weeks."

He adds, "I was prepping a movie for months where I only had 14 pages of some idea of what the movie was. It's a BS way to make a movie, do you know what I'm saying?"

Despite the film's reputation for being a meaningless special effects orgy, it went gangbusters at the box office, grossing $836 million worldwide with a production cost of $200 million.
Bay's not the first person associated with the film to renounce it. Shortly after its release, lead actress Megan Fox told the Early Show she expected people to get a "brain aneurysm or at least a migraine headache" from watching it while actor Shia Lebeouf said he "wasn't impressed with what we did."
