Evanston man accused of fatally hitting woman with car after argument

CHICAGO — A man accused of fatally hitting a woman with his car after an argument in a parking lot on the South Side is facing a murder charge, police say.

According to Chicago police, 38-year-old Jeremy Cummings, an Evanston resident, has been charged with one felony count of first-degree murder.

Authorities say the charge stems from an alleged hit-and-run crash that left a woman dead on Wednesday.

Officers say the deadly crash unfolded just before 6 p.m. in a parking lot in the 100 block of West 79th Street in Chatham.

According to an initial report by police, a witness told officers that they saw Cummings and the victim, a 30-year-old woman, get into an argument before Cummings allegedly got into a black sedan and hit the woman with the car, before fleeing the scene.

Officers say the victim suffered blunt force trauma to her head and body and was taken to the hosptial where she later died from her injuries.

Authorities have not yet identified the victim killed.

Authorities caught up with Cummings the next day and said he was taken into custody in the 2300 block of Prospect Avenue, in Evanston.

Cummings appeared in Court on Sunday for a detention hearing.
