EU's Borrell: Russian election 'not free and fair'

STORY: Putin won 87%, or 76 million votes, by far the biggest landslide in post-Soviet Russian history, according to official results after nearly all the votes had been counted. Turnout was more than 77%, also the biggest in Russia's post-Soviet history.

Borrell said the EU regretted the decision of Russian authorities not to invite international observers.

Lithuania's foreign minister Gabrielius Landsbergis said the poll was not an election and Latvia's Krisjanis Karins said it should prompt more support for Ukraine.

The EU's 27 foreign ministers would issue a joint statement at the end of a meeting in Brussels, Borrell said.
