Just minutes after being crowned 2024 Eurovision winner, Swiss entrant Nemo broke the coveted trophy.

Nemo triumphed with a total of 591 points for their fan-favourite song 'The Code', marking Switzerland's third Eurovision win. The country last won the song contest with Celine Dion in 1988.

As the champion took to the stage for their victory performance, the singer accidentally dropped the microphone-shaped glass gong, breaking their thumb in the process.

Appearing at a press conference after the show with their hand wrapped in a bandage, Nemo said: "I didn't just break 'The Code' I also broke the trophy. I broke my thumb as well. But I got a new [trophy] so I technically have two now."

Fans were quick to share their reactions to Nemo's trophy mishap on X (formerly Twitter), with one writing: "They literally broke the code and then the trophy what a legend!!"

"Imagine if Nemo pulled a Cady Heron (mean girls movie) and broke the trophy into small pieces and started handing it out to others — that would have been iconic," another added.

A third viewer commented: "Graham [Norton] saying 'don't break the trophy' followed by the clink of the Eurovision 2024 winner Nemo smashing the trophy is iconic."
