European Parliament declares Russian dictator Putin illegitimate

The European Parliament has adopted a resolution calling on EU member states and the international community not to recognize the results of Russian elections as legitimate, Ukrainian MP Oleksiy Honcharenko said on Telegram on April 25.
The resolution called for sanctions against those involved in conducting "elections" in occupied Ukrainian territories, and for EU countries to limit relations with the Russian government.
The joint motion for a resolution, published on April 24, said that the elections were held in illegally occupied territories of Ukraine were neither free nor fair and did not meet basic international electoral standards, and thus lacked democratic legitimacy.

The European Parliament urged to limit relations with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin solely to matters necessary for regional peace, humanitarian and human rights purposes, including prisoner exchanges, the return of deported children to Ukraine, or calling on the release of political prisoners.
The so-called "presidential elections" held by Russia from March 15 to 17 were conducted without any political competition, "in a severely restricted environment of systemic and grave repression and during the Russian Federation’s illegal war of aggression against Ukraine."

Russia organized "voting" in occupied Crimea, Donetsk, Kherson, Luhansk, and Zaporizhzhya oblasts, at times amid violence and threats by armed Russian soldiers, and already has a record of organizing illegal voting in Georgia's Abkhazia and South Ossetia and Moldova's Transnistria, against the will of the Georgian and Moldovan authorities.
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) has officially declared Russian dictator Vladimir Putin illegitimate and called on the Council of Europe and European Union member states to cease any contact with his "criminal regime" on April 17.
