Euclid unites to support police after officer’s death
EUCLID, Ohio (WJW) — People all over Northeast Ohio, and across the country are offering condolences to Officer Jacob Derbin’s family and his brothers and sisters in blue.
A memorial continues to grow in front of the Euclid police department with flowers and other mementos in honor of Derbin.

Dozens of police cruisers escorted the hearse carrying the body of Derbin past the Euclid Police Department Monday afternoon.
The streets were lined with fellow officers and citizens for several blocks, showing their respect for the fallen officer.
Derbin was shot and killed when police said he was ambushed while responding to a disturbance call near Saturday night.
“Like the police chief said, you know, when we need police officers, he’s coming to protect us and it hurts that he had to lose his life like that,” said Euclid resident Tyrone Thornton.
Don Wojtila owns Wojtila’s Bakery, a Slovenian-owned family business, down the street from the police department.
Employees continue to package baked goods that Don wants to donate to Derbin’s family and his fellow officers.

“We are gonna help out in some way and we just want to show our support, we want to show our sympathy and support for the police station and the family,” said bakery employee Madelyn Johnson.
