EU suggests using GPS tracking to control Ukrainian hauliers
The European Commission is allegedly discussing the implementation of GPS trackers for Ukrainian hauliers entering Poland as part of additional control measures.

Details: According to sources, the European Commission is allegedly considering installing a GPS tracker in Ukrainian trucks in response to Polish protests in order to have a tool to control where drivers go next in Poland and whether it corresponds to the declared route.
It is reported that the European Commission has no plans to reinstate the permit regime for Ukrainian freight carriers, as demanded by Polish hauliers protesting at the border.

On 5 March, the European Commission published a proposal to extend the agreement on road freight transportation with Ukraine, along with some changes to reassure European (primarily Polish) hauliers.
Possible changes are being worked on in the department of road transport policy, and a working group of the Council of the EU will be formed in the coming weeks.
Background: The agreement on the liberalisation of freight traffic between Ukraine and the EU was first signed in June 2022 and later extended until the end of June 2024. The same agreement was reached with Moldova.
