ETSU clipped by ‘Cats in border battle

CULLOWHEE, N.C. (WJHL) – The Bucs found themselves leading a low-scoring affair against Western Carolina at halftime, 30-25.

Despite a hard-fought battle the rest of the way, the lead would not last. A pair of Catamounts finished with at least 20 points, as the home team scraped by with a 70-65 win.

Baseball Bucs blast Leopards, 15-5

ETSU started the game on a 9-0 run and led by as many as ten points in the first half, by WCU cut the deficit to just five at the break.

The contest saw nine lead changes, many of them in the second half, as neither team led by more than six points in the final 20 minutes.

Karon Boyd tied the game, 63-63, with 3:10 to play, but the Bucs managed just two points down the stretch in the loss. ETSU still had possession and a chance to tie a three-point game with four seconds remaining. However, Jadyn Seymour was fouled and missed his first bonus free throw, essentially sealing the game for WCU.

Ebby Asamoah led the Blue and Gold’s scoring effort with a double-double – 20 points and eleven rebounds. Quimari Peterson also chipped in 13 points and five boards.

Both Karon Boyd and Jadyn Parker finished with nine points in the loss.

Vonterius Woolbright and Russel Jones Jr. each notched 21 points for the Catamounts. Woolbright earned a double-double by snatching ten rebounds, as well.

ETSU (13-14, 5-9 SoCon) returns home on Wednesday against VMI. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
