ETSU baseball avoids weekend sweep with Sunday win over JMU

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) – The Bucs needed every bit of an early lead it built against the Dukes on Sunday afternoon, as they held on tight for a 7-6 victory inside Thomas Stadium.

A 2-RBI single from Cam Sisneros had the Blue and Gold in the driver seat from the get-go. An RBI-fielder’s choice and RBI single made the score 4-0 in the second inning.

A Sisneros three-run homer extended the lead even further before the frame was through.

ETSU carried a comfortable 7-1 edge into the seven, but JMU started to rally. An RBI groundout, sandwiched between a pair of home runs, drew the Dukes to within 7-6.

However, Owen Kovacs came on and earned his third save of the season, allowing just two hits and no runs over the final 2.0 innings of the game.

Sisneros led the offensive charge, going 3-for-4 with 5 RBI and a run scored.

Michael Harpster improved to 3-0 on the season for ETSU, allowing six hits and four earned runs, while striking out five batters in 6.0 innings of work.

The Bucs (11-4) remain home for a mid-week matchup with Harvard on Wednesday. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
