It looks like UCF will push its beef with College GameDay to the side for one weekend.

The ESPN show announced Sunday that it is headed to Orlando for its Week 12 show with the undefeated Knights hosting 9-1 Cincinnati in an important American Athletic Conference matchup. That game is also getting the 8 p.m. Saturday night primetime treatment.

It’s a big deal for UCF and the AAC as a whole.

“This fanbase has been waiting for College GameDay for the last two years to recognize their program and to bring GameDay to Orlando. This is the week that it happens,” Kirk Herbstreit said in the announcement.

UCF’s AD called out ‘GameDay’ last month

After beating Navy on Saturday, UCF has now won 22 games in a row. The Knights went undefeated last fall and beat Auburn in the Peach Bowl. Now with Josh Heupel as coach in place of Scott Frost, UCF is undefeated yet again.

Last month, however, Herbstreit pointed to teams like Fresno Sate, Appalachian State and Utah State when discussing the race to represent the Group of Five conferences in a New Years Six bowl game. He said Oct. 20 that those teams are “more deserving” than UCF while pointing to UCF’s strength of schedule.

Naturally, UCF fans weren’t too happy about it. Neither was athletic director Danny White, who issued a rebuke addressed to the GameDay crew the next day.

The following week, UCF fans put together plans to make a trip to GameDay when it was being held in Jacksonville for the Florida-Georgia game in order to voice their displeasure with ESPN. However, threats from UF fans caused UCF fans to reconsider.

Now, UCF fans will get to stay in Orlando to do that.

This is a big game in the AAC

UCF has had Temple and Cincinnati nipping at its heels in the AAC East standings all year long. Last week, UCF beat Temple, 52-40. That’s the only AAC loss for the Owls. Cincinnati lost to Temple earlier in the year for its only AAC loss, but would have a tiebreaker over UCF if it pulls off the upset.

In just his second season as head coach, Luke Fickell has turned around the UC program quickly. The Bearcats went 4-8 (2-6 AAC) last year but are now 9-1 with a 5-1 mark in conference play. Cincy has won three straight since the Temple loss, which came in overtime in Philadelphia.

The Bearcats could find themselves in the College Football Playoff rankings on Tuesday.
