Escaped inmate from Fresno Co. tased in Monterey: CDCR

MONTEREY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – An inmate from Fresno County who escaped the Delta Conservation Camp in Solano County mid-May was found Saturday afternoon, state officials announced.

According to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), 36-year-old James Xiong walked away from the conservation camp on May 13.

On Saturday around 1 p.m., the CDCR says Xiong was taken into custody with the assistance of the Monterey Police Department.

State officials say officers were required to use physical force and a taser to take him into custody.

The CDCR says Xiong was transferred to the Correctional Training Facility prison in Soledad and will be referred to the S36-year-old James Xiongolano County District Attorney’s Office for possible escape charges.

According to the department, Xiong was received from Fresno County in March 2015 for a six-year sentence for first-degree robbery and a three-year concurrent sentence for vehicle theft with a prior felony violation. He was released in Nov. 2019 to parole supervision and then returned from parole in Sept. 2022. Xiong had been in and out of police custody since then with offenses in Nevada County and Kings County.
