Escambia County home damaged, cat dead after Sunday night fire: ECFR

ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WKRG) — A home was damaged and a pet cat was killed in a fire on Sunday, the Escambia County Fire Rescue shared in a Facebook post.

According to the post, ECFR units responded to a house fire in the 1000 block of Rainbow Avenue at around 10:33 p.m. on Sunday.

When units arrived, they saw flames and smoke coming from the back of the home. ECFR units made entry and began “immediate water application,” according to the post.

The post noted the fire was brought under control by around 10:59 p.m.

During a search of the home, authorities said one cat was found dead. There were no other injuries or fatalities, according to the post.

Through investigations, authorities determined the fire was caused by “an electrical malfunction in the rear addition of the home.”

Escambia County EMS and Florida Power & Light provided assistance to ECFR during the response, the release said.
