Okla. Tax Commission reporting error leads to inflated sales tax figures in revenue report
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Oklahoma's sales tax revenue collections for December were strong, but not record breaking as reported earlier this week.
The Oklahoma Tax Commission on Wednesday said it mistakenly provided the wrong figures to state finance officials, who reported on Tuesday the state had set an all-time record for sales tax collections.
Tax Commission Executive Director Tony Mastin says the state general fund received $163.1 million in sales tax receipts last month, not $172 million as was initially reported. The $163.1 million in sales tax receipts still was an increase of more than 6 percent over collections from the previous year, but didn't match the record $165.4 million in sales tax receipts collected in June.
Mastin says some city and county sales tax revenue was mistakenly included in the total.
