ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – The Ernie Davis Academy middle school will be hosting a Family Reading Night next week for middle school students and families to celebrate the “Whole School, One Book” challenge supported by the Innovative Approaches to Literacy Federal Grant.

The family event will take place on Thursday, March 7, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Ernie Davis Academy.

The event will serve as a celebration for the “Book Besties” book club, a whole-school-initiative where students of the school read the same book selected by the Student Success Team. The book the students are reading now is “We Dream of Space,” a historical fiction book by Erin Entrada Kelly.

The event will feature a variety of family-friendly activities for the night including book bingo, a book-related art project, tech-electrical participation circuits, galaxy lemonade stands, a writing-a-memoir station, games, book trivia and more. Door prizes, free books, snacks and drinks will also be provided.

A sibling room will be available for families with young children so parents can spend time with their EDA students during the event. This room is provided by EDA Student Council members.

Sponsors of the event will be on-site for the evening including people from Hilliard, M&T Bank, Steele Memorial Library, Corning Community College, Red Bookshelf, ARCADE and APEX, Equal Opportunity Program, PFO booth and the BWA summer program.

If you’re interested in attending the event, you can fill out an attendance form online. Registration for the event is recommended but not required.
