Erik Matti denies criticising Nadine Lustre's new film "Ulan"

2 Apr – Erik Matti recently chastised netizens for accusing him of insulting Nadine Lustre and her new movie, "Ulan".

As reported on Inquirer, the issue sparked recently when Matti posted on social media, "A little of the weird, the quirk, the strange, the abstraction, the offbeat, the crazy, the meta, the esoteric or the mystical can often be mistaken as brave filmmaking or good cinema. Not necessarily. Sometimes it could be just a thesis film disguised as serious cinema."

While he mentioned no names, some believed that Matti was dissing Lustre's new movie, "Ulan" - directed by Irene Villamor - which has a bit of magical realism in its storyline.

A fan of the actress retweeted Matti's post, and blasted the director, saying that filmmakers should support each other rather than dragging them down.

To that, Matti wrote, "But I was talking about films in general and not really something specific. Don't jump to conclusions."

When the netizen pointed out that Matti has blocked another person who claimed he was criticising the movie, he posted, "I hate people presuming something they have no clue of. I'll block you too if you keep on insinuating I am referring to your film. If it's Nadine's movie 'Ulan,' I haven't seen it and I [don't know] what it's about."
