Erie region will see warmer weather, less snow in wake of Thanksgiving weekend snowfall
The Erie region saw its first significant snowfall over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, with some areas reporting as much as 8 inches on the ground.
More snow could be on the way Tuesday.
But warmer, wet and less frigid temperatures are in the forecast for the rest of the week, according to the National Weather Service.
Winter storm advisories were in effect for Erie and Crawford counties through much of the weekend, beginning on Friday. Snowfall tapered off Sunday evening and the heaviest accumulations were recorded south of Interstate 90.

Total snow accumulation of 6 inches to 11 inches were forecast throughout the region.
Weather spotters reported various amounts throughout the area as of late Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.
Eight inches of snow was reported on the ground in Harborcreek Sunday night; 5 inches in Edinboro and Meadville; 3 inches in North East; and 2.5 inches in the city of Erie.
Tuesday’s forecast calls for cloudy skies, snow showers and a high of 41 degrees, according to forecasters. There is a chance of flurries and/or rain on Tuesday night with a low near 35 degrees.

On Wednesday, clear but cloudy skies are forecast, with a high temperature near 42 degrees.
Thursday, a chance of rain and highs near 50 degrees are expected.
Ski season starting soon
As colder weather returns to the region, area ski resorts are pushing forward with their plans to open their slopes, lifts, hills and trails for skiing, tubing and other winter activities.
Jane Eshbaugh, marketing director at Holiday Valley Resort in Ellicottville, N.Y., said the resort is on track to start its winter season on Friday.
“We plan to have four lifts open,” Eshbaugh said. “We have been making snow, and we got a ton of natural snow over the weekend.”
Mount Pleasant of Edinboro, though, plans to open around Christmas Day, said owner Doug Sinsabaugh, who added that Mount Pleasant’s snow-making equipment needs “good snowmaking nights,” where temperatures are below 28 degrees.
“We’ve only had one of those so far,” Sinsabaugh said. “Hopefully we get a lot more cold nights, where it drops below 28 degrees for an extended period.”
Representatives of Peek’n Peak Resort in Clymer, N.Y. could not be reached for comment about the start of winter season activities.
But according to the resort’s Facebook page, snow-making machines are at work at Peek’n Peak and winter season passes are now on sale.
