Erie police seek suspect in armed robbery of a second Family Dollar store

Erie police are searching for a suspect who robbed a westside store clerk at gunpoint on Tuesday night in the second robbery of a Family Dollar store in the city in as many days.

The latest robbery was reported shortly after 10 p.m. Tuesday at the Family Dollar in the 400 block of West Eighth Street, near Walnut Street.

A female store employee was counting a cash drawer as the store prepared to close when the clerk encountered a male who threw a drawstring bag on the counter, pointed a handgun at her and demanded money, Erie police Deputy Chief Rick Lorah said.

The suspect fled with an undisclosed amount of money. The employee was not injured in the robbery.

The suspect was wearing a mask and was described as about 6 feet 2 inches tall and about 150 pounds, according to police.

Anyone with information that could assist in the robbery investigation is asked to call Erie police Detective Sgt. Craig Stoker at 814-870-1506.

Tuesday's robbery occurred a day after police said a man walked into the Family Dollar store in the 1500 block of West 26th Street, in the plaza that includes a Tops supermarket, and robbed the Family Dollar of cash on Monday at about 11:45 a.m.
