Erie-area Highmark Health workers among company-wide layoffs

Erie workers are among the 182 employees Highmark Health has laid off companywide.

A spokeswoman for the Pittsburgh-based company, which provides health insurance and oversees the Allegheny Health Network, said that five employees were laid off out of Highmark's 3,305 workers in the Erie area. None of the Erie layoffs involved employees in clinical care.

Highmark officials said layoffs included employees at Highmark Health, Highmark Health Plan, Allegheny Health Network and enGen, a healthtech subsidiary. AHN includes Saint Vincent Hospital.

"As we implement these difficult but necessary changes, Highmark Health will continue to invest strategically in growth, new markets, and reinventing health to fulfill our mission of delivering a remarkable health experience," Highmark officials said in a statement.
