Eric Trump claims that is it “nonsensical” Biden administration policies causing Texas to freeze and lose power.

In an interview with Fox News on Monday morning, the middle son of former president Donald Trump claimed that President Joe Biden’s actions since taking office on 20 January are making people miss his father.

“I think every single day, Biden makes people miss Donald Trump more,” said Mr Trump. “When you see some of these policies that are literally destroying jobs, that are destroying industries, that are causing Texas to freeze, that are cutting off our power to our energy grids and all these other nonsensical policies.”

Texas froze last week as brutally cold weather knocked a large portion of electricity generation offline, as many sources including natural gas power plants have not been weather-proofed.

Demand for electricity soared as people tried to heat their homes, and as Texas has a separate power grid from the rest of the country, there were no other sources from which to draw capacity.

Despite a federal report recommending weather-proofing after a 2011 cold snap, nothing was done as the deregulated energy market in the state offered no incentives for the expenditure and suppliers focus on producing electricity as cheaply as possible.

None of these factors have anything to do with the Biden administration, and Texas has been run by Republican governors for more than 25 years.

Mr Trump also spoke about what the future holds for his father and the Republican Party. The former president will address the CPAC event this weekend — an annual meeting of American conservatives.

“There’s 75-80 million people who would follow my father to the end of the Earth,” the younger Mr Trump boasted saying that they love him for not being a traditional politician.

“There’s no question he will play a pivotal role in politics for a very long time to come. I really do believe he is the modern Republican Party.”

He also predicted that those Republicans in the House and Senate who had supported impeachment are “going to get primaried” when they come up for reelection.
