CBS has renewed the drama series for the 2024-2025 broadcast season, amidst the current its fourth season, which will conclude on May 19.

"The Equalizer, led by the incomparable Queen Latifah, has all the best elements of a powerful drama," said CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach in a statement.

"The series is stacked with suspense, heroism, high stakes and formidable characters our audience roots for. We look forward to another dynamic season."

The Equalizer is a reboot of the classic Equalizer series, which originally ran from 1985-1989. The new series stars Queen Latifah as Robyn McCall, "an enigmatic woman with a mysterious background who uses her extensive skills as a former CIA operative to help those with nowhere else to turn."

Queen Latifah, who is also an executive producer of the series, is joined by castmates Lorraine Toussaint, Tory Kittles, Adam Goldberg, Liza Lapira and Laya DeLeon Hayes.

The news of another Equalizer season follows other CBS renewals such as SWAT, which was saved from cancellation, NCIS, The Neighborhood, NCIS: Sydney, new series Tracker, and all three FBI shows (FBI, FBI: International and FBI: Most Wanted)

Meanwhile, Queen Latifah will also be back in her iconic role for the sequel of Girls Trip. Girls Trip 2 was officially confirmed last year by co-writer Tracy Oliver at the Sundance Film Festival.

Though no release dates have been revealed yet, Oliver did confirm the return of all four main characters played by Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, Regina Hall and Tiffany Haddish. She also hinted the movie would take place in Ghana.

The Equalizer airs on CBS in the US.
