EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – A 43-year-old man was stabbed and killed after a physical altercation between passengers on a Sun Metro bus Thursday, May 2 in Central El Paso, El Paso Police Department’s Public Information Officer Sgt. Robert Gomez said.

Gomez said that officers received a call at 6 p.m. Thursday to respond to the 1600 block of Texas Avenue about a stabbing.

Officers responding to the scene found the man wounded near the bus. He was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries, Gomez said.

Gomez said no suspect is in custody yet and some witnesses left the scene before police arrived.

“We know that there were witnesses that left the bus and we weren’t able to speak with them. The detectives would really like to speak to those witnesses so that we can get this straightened out,” Gomez said.

Additionally, Crime Against Persons Unit is investigating this homicide.

Sun Metro issued the following statement:

“Sun Metro is saddened by the isolated incident that took place last night. Our hearts and deepest condolences go out to the victim and family and to our riders who were impacted by the incident.

“We are committed to providing safe public transportation. We are fully cooperating with the investigators and we are thankful to our law enforcement and our first responders for their quick response.”

Anthony DeKeyzer, director of Sun Metro, said this was an isolated incident and that Sun Metro remains a safe place for the public to get transportation.

He said they employ 52 security guards, work closely with police and drivers and dispatch are trained to take the appropriate steps in an emergency situation.
