Ryan Gosling is a talented actor. He makes great movies. He’s handsome and hearthrobby and the original internet boyfriend. But the guy is also outrageously, almost unfairly funny, a quality he’s wielded to ceaselessly delightful effect ever since his turn as Ken last summer.

The Canadian megastar’s latest comedic stunt? Turning up to the premiere of his new flick The Fall Guy dressed as Beavis of Beavis and Butt-Head fame. Yes, hot on the heels of that instantly iconic SNL sketch, Gosling and Mikey Day reprised their roles as everyone’s favorite unsavory, heavy-metal-loving teens. And, if his first-ever IRL red-carpet appearance is anything to go by, it seems that Beavis shares Gosling’s passion for excellent TAG Heuer chronographs.

Gosling did, in fact, initially appear at the premiere in one of his signature pastel Gucci suits, accompanied by the same solid-gold TAG Heuer Carrera on his wrist—a contemporary take on the vintage Heuer Carrera ref. 1158 CHN—that he’s been rocking ever since the Barbie press tour. Upon his later reemergence as Beavis, however—dressed in the character’s familiar black low-tops, white tube socks, gray shorts, blue Death Rock T-shirt, blond pompadour, and gigantic false nose—Gosling apparently decided the mouth-breathing moron would pick a slightly less flashy timepiece.

Gosling-as-Beavis opted for a “Glassbox” Carrera with a black “reverse panda” dial and silver chronograph totalizers. Worn on a perforated black calfskin “rally”-type strap, it’s the Swiss brand’s modern version of its classic racing watch born in 1963. Released in 2023, the new “Glassbox” rethinks the Carrera’s dial design, opting for a curved inner flange and sapphire crystal that improve legibility for both the outer tachymeter scale and the dial more generally. Measuring 39 mm, it’s since been produced in numerous versions, including ones that reference other Carrera-adjacent watches such as the Skipper.

Gosling has appeared in all sorts of TAG Heuer watches over the past few years, ever since he helped to launch the Carrera Three-Hand back in 2022. He showed up in Barbie rocking no less than three vintage Heuers at once, and since then, he’s continued to sport numerous compelling chronos. As the face of modern TAG Heuer, he’s proven a potent ambassador for a brand returning to its automotive roots after several decades concentrating on more entry-level, quartz-powered fare. It remains to be seen just how sophisticated Beavis’s horological inclinations are, but the “reverse panda” Carrera is an excellent starting point. What can we say? Cornholio has taste!
