A new development was made as Las Vegas Police continued the investigation into the murder of Tupac Shakur. On Friday morning (Sept. 29) law enforcement arrested Duane “Keefe D” Davis on charges that are not immediately clear, according to the Associated Press.

Keefe D has been on the radar of investigators for some time and has previously admitted in interviews and in his 2019 memoir, Compton Street Legend, that he was in the Cadillac where shots were fired during the fatal September 1996 drive-by. Shakur, 25, was wounded multiple times and died from his injuries the following week.

The outlet reported that Davis has referred to himself as one of the last living witnesses to the shooting. In his book, he described an alleged meeting with federal and local authorities in 2010 where he faced drug charges, claiming, “They promised they would shred the indictment and stop the grand jury if I helped them out.”

The arrest comes after authorities issued a search warrant in July related to the case. Carrying out a raid at a home owned by Paula Clemons, the wife of Davis, law enforcement recovered .40-caliber cartridges, computers, photographs from the 1990s,VIBE magazine featuring the late rap star, miscellaneous thumb drives, external hard drives, audio recordings featuring Davis and other unnamed figures, and a copy of Davis’ aforementioned memoir.

In August, authorities stated that they’re “looking at first-degree murder potentially for Keefe D.” Davis has claimed over the years that his nephew, Orlando Anderson was the alleged triggerman. Anderson was murdered in May 1998.
